Palazzo Bembo is located on Riva del Carbon along the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. It was the home of the noble Bembo family, who had this Venetian-Gothic style structure built at the end of the 14th century. The family included Duke Giovanni Bembo, Doge of Venice from 1615 to 1618, who was credited with starting the War of Gradisca, which led to the destruction of the Uskoci pirates. He died in 1618 fighting against the occupation of Spanish troops in the city. The palazzo was also the birthplace in 1470 of scholar and poet Pietro Bembo. He was a noted figure in the development of Tuscan in the Italian language and a key figure in the creation of the madrigal in 16th century music. Today the Palazzo Bembo is a hotel.
