Montgomery Clift's home is located on East 61st Street in New York City. The Nebraska born native made a name for himself on the Broadway stage beginning in the mid-30's, then segued to Hollywood in the late-40's. Even as his film career took off New York was still his home base, and he lived in a duplex apartment in this building from 1951 to 1960. During this time he starred in A Place in the Sun (1951), I Confess (1953), From Here To Eternity (1953), Raintree County (1957), The Young Lions (1958), Suddenly last Summer (1959) and Wild River (1960). During the filming of Raintree County in 1956 he was involved in a near fatal car crash in Hollywood which ruined his good looks and left him emotionally damaged for the rest of his life. After a fire in this apartment in 1960 he moved a few homes down to 217 East 61 Street.
