Babe Ruth's home is located on West 88th Street in NYC. After marrying at nearby St. Gregory the Great Church on April 17, 1929, Babe Ruth and his new wife, Claire Hodgson, called the entire 7th floor of this New York City apartment building their home. They moved in just prior to the start of the 1929 baseball season. Ruth hit his 500th home run the following August. In 1930 he was awarded a record $80,000 a year in a new two-year contract with the New York Yankees. Ruth's productivity waned in the following years and after the 1934 season the Yankees didn't re-sign him. He then signed with the Boston Braves in a mistaken belief that he would be given the chance to manage the team. Seeing the writing on the wall, Ruth retired less than halfway through the 1935 season. He and Claire would eventually move to another apartment on Riverside Drive. There is a red plaque on the outside of the building acknowledging Ruth's time here.
