Jimmi Hendrix's home is on West 12th Street in New York City. Although for much of the 1960s the famed musician stayed at various locations throughout New York City, he never owned his own place. That changed when he signed the lease for an apartment in this 1931 art deco building in the fall of 1969, shortly after his appearance at Woodstock. It would be the only New York residence he would actually own. During his time here he recorded his Band of Gypsys album at the Filmore East in New York on January 1, 1970. Later that summer he opened his Electric Lady Studios at the site of the former Generation Club in Greenwich Village. In August Hendrix would leave for England where he died on September 18, 1970.
