Humphrey Bogart's birthplace is on West 103rd Street in New York City's Upper West Side. The film legend was born in this apartment on December 25, 1899. He lived here with his parents, Dr. Belmont DeForest Bogart, a surgeon, and Maude Humphrey Bogart, an illustrator, along with his two sisters. Bogart was first sent to Delancey School, then Trinity School, and finally Phillips Academy, which he was expelled from in 1918. He subsequently went on to join the Navy for lack of better job opportunities. After his stint in the Navy Bogart returned to his home and subsequently began an acting career which began on Broadway in 1922. In 1925 the Bogart family would move to a new home on East 56th Street. There is a plaque honoring Bogart next to the front door of the building.
